  1. I'm not sure if you're looking for culture activites for your culture, or for other cultures...

  2. Our little ones have just celebrated the chinese new year, they were asked to wear chinese outfits - lots of silk pj's & eye make-up & they had prawn crackers with noodles for their snack.

We have also had indian dancing & the children made braclets with bells to wear on their ankles.

  3. We have an ethnic day and each child would bring a dish of their ethnic heritage plus the recipe.  We set it up buffet style and display the recipe in front.  This will allow the parents to see ingredients for allergies.

We then have a tasting party with families and preschoolers. This is a wonderful and social time for both parents and preschoolers.    We put all the recipes in recipe book.  We have the children decorate the front of their recipe books to give to the parents at the end of the year.

Also, I love the site www.perpetualpreschool.com  It has everything!

    Have Fun!

  4. We did Christmas around the world this year.  We have done Chinese New Year.  If you have children in your class from other cultures, ask their parents for help in how they do things differently, perhaps they will come in and speak and prepare a dish from their culture.  Food is always a big hit!  I had a mom who grew up in Vietnam come and she taught us a game they played when she was a little girl and she had the children prepare a Vietnamese dish with rice with her.  It was great!  Good luck.

  5. Play Sparkle with them . They have to get in a line . Give them simple words. They each say one letter . If they say a wrong letter they're out . They are also out at the end of each word when they say sparkle.

  6. Go to Naeyc and see the many, many, many examples of activities in this area.  A person of note nationally in this specific area is Cecelia Alvarado.  Cecelia is involved with many efforts in the area of child development in regards to culture, racism and bi-lingual/bi-cultural schemes.  With these two resources you have plenty  to draw from. I think this is incredible that you are doing this......its not often that a teacher thinks of incorporating cultural aspects into the classroom except at holidays.  I would also encourage you to read anything by Paulo Freire or aspects of the formation of the "highlander center" best of luck to you with this project.

  7. I think it's great you want to incorporate culture, we can do this in the classroom by bringing in books in different languages or with pictures of kids from around the world. Lakeshore and other school supply stores have sets of multi-ethnic plastic foods. You can also bring in multi-ethnic dolls and puzzles.

the best thing you can do for your kids is to stay away from stereotypical things like dressing up in what you think that culture wears (like big "mexican" hats, which people don't really wear) and just incorporate culture by bringing in items from different cultures that they can use in the different areas.

dramatic play area (foods, dolls, clothes)

    library (books)

    manipulatives (puzzles)

Show them what the world is really like now, so they have a realistic view of that culture. post pictures of different families throughout the classroom. and bring in a globe of the world if you have one. another great thing is google earth, if you have access to the computer and the internet you can show them satellite pics of different parts of the world, including where they live! they love this last one.

  8. mardi gras is really fun

u can have the kids dress up and wear face mask

when i waz little we used to put a toy in a cake, and the person with the slice containing the toy gets a prize
