I want to take beginner ice skating group classes at the Aviator Sports and Recreation center in Brooklyn, NY but do they have a class like this? If so, how much do they cost? Should i get my own ice skates or rent them? Is there some kind of dress code? or can you wear whatever want like sweat pants, sweater, gloves etc.? Also, is ice skating really hard b/c i can't roller skate really good? Any experiences with Aviator ice rink? Is it nice? Is it cold? Will i get put into a class with little kids since i never had any ice skating experience? Does it hurt when you fall on the ice?

Thanks! And sorry for it being so long ☺

  1. you should search for the rinks website

all of the information should be on there

cost also depends on the place you go too

get your own skates if you think you are going to stick with ice skating, good professional skates cost over 500 dollars

there usually is no dress code, common sense will tell you what would be appropriate to wear

i think roller blading is much easier than ice skating, ice is very slippery and you have to learn to balance yourself and move forward on 2 thin, sharp blades,

i don't find the arena's that cold but if you get cold easily then you may get cold, again this with personal preference, you may be in a class with younger kids or you may be put into an adult class, your arena's site should tell you more information about what age groups they have for lessons.

It depends on what you fall on and how hard you fall..Its solid, hard ice...it will hurt at least a little bit.

  2. Well I don't really know anything about the Aviator Sprots and Recreation center in Brooklyn, NY but I took beginner ice skating lessons at my local ice rink and I'm guessing that most ice rinks' lessons are similar. I have moved on to Freestyle and I'm not in beginner anymore but I'll tell you what it's like. My ice skating lessons cost $112 for group lessons once a week, for six weeks. And during you session of six weeks, you can go to public skate for free. I would suggest getting your own ice skates, it's easier to care for them, they are specifically your own, and if you ever want to go to a different ice rink, you've already got your own skates. At my rink there is no dress code, but I would suggest wearing something that is easy to move in. Some people wear jeans, but I don't think that's a good idea becasue they are kind of stiff. You can wear skating dresses, skirts, warm up pants, shorts, capris, sweaters, helmets, gloves, jackets, doesn't matter. I think it's very easy to catch on and not hard at all. Of course it will be difficult at first because you're not used to it, but you'll catch on soon. I couldn't roller skate either until I started ice skating =) My ice rink is cold there but after you start skating you get warmed up and I usually end up taking off my jacket. No, I don't have any experiences with that ice rink, sorry. You might have little kids in your class, but there will still probably be some people your age also. My rink has group lessons for kids ages 1-5, 6-14, and 15+(adult classes). At first it might hurt when you fall, but really if you think about it, it doesn't necessarily hurt it just kind of startles you. I would suggest wearing like some basketball knee pads under your pants, and some gloves. Lots of people at my rink do that and it willl help you feel more confident too. Good luck! You're going to have so much fun!
