  1. How perfect! I just went through this experience myself not too long ago. I learned everything through trial and error and everything is A-OK now.

The best food to give your kitten is canned food - it has a lot of neccesary moisture and all the nutrients your kitten needs to grow. I feed mine nutro max or nutro naturals because it has everything my kitten needs - a lot of real muscle meats and the nutrients. You can tell which canned food is good by looking at the ingredient list. The first 3-4 ingredients should be real meats (cod, turkey, chicken, etc) and not fillers (by-products, corn meal, etc). Since canned food is expensive, the best thing to do is to do a 2/3 mix of canned food and 1/3 mix of dry. It'll save you some money. And always leave fresh water next to his food. Human food isn't that good for them, although a occasional plain boiled chicken breast doesn't hurt. My kitten loves them as treats!

As for litter box, you can start out with a standard basic litter box for your kitten. And depending on it's size/age, you have to look for a box that he can get into easily. Once your kitten is comfortable with the litter box, then you can consider the fancy ones, such as the hooded ones (although some cats like the hooded box and some don't - it's all thier preference so you never know if it'll work until you try it). As for the litter itself, the safest (and cheapest) litter to use is clay litter for kittens. Try to find one that is smooth, meaning there is a consistency with the granules. For instance, the Petco brand clay litter sucks cuz the granules are all different sizes, rough, and it emits A LOT of dust. The best place to put the litter box is somewhere where there isn't a lot of traffic. Cats like privacy while using the rr too. For advice, I'll look for somewhere private where there is also a window to vent!

As for raising it - all cats have different personalities. The best way for it to like your family is to have it exposed to your family often and to have them pet and play with your kitten. Make sure to buy him plenty of toys - some rattling balls, a mouse toy or two - and make sure to get a scratching post!

    Good luck and have fun!

  2. It's up to you whether to feed him dry or wet.  There will be many people that feel dry food is fine (I'm one of them) and others that will swear it's bad.  I work for a vet, and he says it's a personal choice between you and your vet.  He suggests to new owners to by a small box of Kitten Chow and small cans of wet food made for kittens.  Keep the dry food out with fresh water all day and night.  Feed them a small amount of wet food once a day (try to get on a schedule - like at dinner time, or before work).  That way, if the kitten doesn't like the wet food, you know not to feed it that anymore.  They are fine on a all-dry food diet, they provide all the protein and nutrients needed, and as for "fluid intake" issues - as long as you have fresh water down - their intake should be fine.

As for litter - I have used Tidy Cats with Crystals with about a cup of baking soda.  Proper cleaning is a through scooping of waste everyday - and replacing the litter at the same time. Once a month (if you scoop everyday) completely throw away the litter and wash the litterbox with dish soap and water. Do not use bleach or detergents like Lysol or Pinesol. They have a scent that could offend the cat. Their sense of smell is different from ours and they do not require their bathrooms to smell like lavender and flowers. Completely dry the box and replace litter. I use a cup of baking soda added to the litter to help control the smell once a week. Make sure you have enough litter in the box, 3-4 inches is the recommended amount.

Put the litter box is a place that is not in a high traffic area, and away from the food dish (would you want to eat in a smelly bathroom?).  Make sure you get him/her all the required shots, and get the kitten spay/neutered.

Good luck with you new little buddy!

  3. I feed my cats fancy feast in the can, and i mix IAMS and other brands of dry cat food together so my cats get a variety . Also my cats dont like fish, but that my just be them. my litter box is by the side door. when you  get a new cat you NEED to keep them in ONE room of your house so that they can get used to the smell. Then after a week take it outside in the backyard on a LEASH so it doesnt run away, and walk it aroud for a while. Kittens LOVE attention and love to play. so buy cat toys. Cat nip makes them go crazy! Have fun with your kitten!!!

  4. well when i first got a kitten i gave it warm tuna and a little milk. if you plan to get your cat declawed you should get some of the liter that is made of wood, the soft kind. you should put the litterbox in the garage or in the bathroom so people will get used to the smell in the right place. if you want it to like your family you should have them come over often and the kitten wont be scared to come out and greet them...

  5. go to the pet store and get food for the kitten. for kittens, litter that clumps is bad so don't get that. you should put a litter box in a corner and private. cat's like to go to the bathromm in private. always be nice to the kitten

  6. Heyyy!

I just got a new kitten too (about two weeks ago)!!!  This is what my vet reccommended!

I would recommend getting Royal Canin, Iams or this type of cat food that starts with an "H"...it's Hillside or something.  That is what my vet recommendd for my kitten.  Make sure you get kitten food, not cat food!  Kitten's also LOVE treats!  Make sure you pick up some nice treats for it!!!  I wouldn't reccommend feeding your kitten people food, it can end in obesioty, it may not eat it's kitten food, and some foods aren't healthy for them.  I would talk to your vet about that.  Most people buy their cats dry food, I would go with try food.  If you want to have a mushy, or soft food...try adding water too it, or get soft treats.

Kitten's love toys!  You don't really have to go out and buy them toys, you can make them out of wool, string, pom poms, pipecleaners, feathers, and other crafty stuff you have around the house.  My kitten loves to play with pom poms, but you have to be careful, only let them play with them if you are supervising, they may attempt to eat them!  Cats love feathers!  If you make toys, make sure there arn't any sharp edges, or wet glue.  If you are putting glue on the toys, make sure that it is non toxic, and is dryed for at least 1hr (pom pom's take more to dry, since they absorb the glue).  Laser pointers are also great for kittens!  Just make sure you don't shine it in it's eyes!  Be careful with the yarn and/ or string, how to play with it should be: you hold the yarn in your hand, and the kitten chases you, or jumps up to try and grab it.  Supervise!!!

For litter, I use Arm and Hammer with odur alert.  Most litter is fine though.  I used to have this paper litter, that was just like the clay litter, but was recycled.  I like the Arm and Hammer better because it turns blue when the whole box needs to be changed, and obvisouly, it clumps.  It also smells good, so the litter doesn't smell!  I would reccommend putting your litter box in the laudry room, or washroom!

If your cat does anything wrong, you can spray it with water (right in the face!!! :( ), or grab it buy it's neck (just the skin, like how it's mother used to carry it, I know...it sounds harsh...but, it doesn't hurt them).  If you are going to use that source of discipline, hold right before it's front legs start, not to close to it's head.  Cats usually don't do anything when you hold them like this, they just hang there...if you hold to close to it's head...it may squeal or meow.  Don't worry, it's skin will NOT rip!  When you do either of these, say no!

*Make sure you leave all the toilet seats down, for the kitten may try to jump in, jsut for a while...try to teach it not to go near them...if they jump in, they may drown*

    * I recommend not getting your kitten declawed, it is like having no finger nails, and the first bend in your finger!  (If you do decide to declaw it, try to declaw it before 6months), talk to your vet!!!*

*Go to the vet to get it's shots (if not already done)*

    *Spay/ Neuter it at 6months!!!*

    *******************TALK TO YOUR VET********************

    Hope this helps!

Have fun with your knew little kitty!

If you have any other questions, I will always be welcome to help!

    :) :D :)

  7. Go to the pet store. Kitten food dry or wet will work perfectly for a kitten until it gets older. Do not give it tuna, that is bad for it. Other meats should be fine, although you should ask your vet just in case. Cats do need shots for rabies and you should probably get it spaid/neutered. The litter box should be placed where the cat has access to it and knows where it is because if it doesn't than it will likely "go" all over the house. You should treat it nicely when raising it and pet it and hold it. Give it some toys to play with sometimes. Cats are usually friendly and love attention.

  8. Food:

Your cat may vary it's favorite food. My cat likes the salmon flavored ones.Don't feed them table scraps,or else your cat will be fat. xD

Wet food, I suggest you get the Friskies brand. :) My cat looooves those! For dry,get the IAMs brand.

If you want to change your food into a more nutritious brand, slowly change the food. For ex:

    1st Day: 4/4 IAMs

    2nd Day: 3/4 IAMs, 1/4 different brand

    3rd Day: 1/2 IAMs, 1/2 different brand

    4th Day: 1/4 IAMs, 3/4 different brand

    5th Day: 4/4 different brand

6 Months: Wet food 2 Tsp a day

1 yr: Wet food 1 Tsp a day

Just leave a bowl of dry food and water out so your cat can eat whenever he/she is hungry.

If you don't know what the difference between dry food and wet food, wet food is like the cat version of baby food. It's soft, and you don't have to chew. IAMs dry food is like a 3 point star thats flat at hard. When she/he is older than 1 yrs old, you might want to feed her once every now and then for a treat.

    Litter:

As for litter, don't use sand litter. It's a pain to clean, and in my experience, it doesn't work. So I suggest using the rock-looking clumps of  litter. It clumps, and is easy to clean.I suggest getting it neutered or spayed, because if it's not, it might get cancer/pee all over the carpet. The best place to put the litter box is in a bathroom. It may stink xD so if you have somewhere unused, put it there. It should not have carpet for a surface.

    Like:

The cat may like the person who feeds it more, and follow that person around. Raise your cat to like you - scoop the litter box daily (eewwww, you wouldn't want to p**p in a place that has already been pooped, do you?), don't let the food/water bowl deplete, play with it and pet it a lot.

    Toys:

a rod with feathers at the end of it

    a scratching post

    lazer pointer

    remote control mouse

    Those are a must-get.

    WARNINGS:

DO NOT give her yarn or string. It may wrap around their intestines and your cat may die.

Beware: certain brands of wet food may contain stuff that is bad for your cat. Dry food is safer.

If you switch the food so suddenly, your cat may not eat it.

DON'T declaw her/him, its like going without your arms in life.

Don't get a mouse too big or noisy, and she/he 'll be scared.

  9. hi

special kitten food would be best- next to the cat food in any normal shop...and kitten dry food biscuits too as they are smaller for their small teeth...

litter box somewhere easily accessible; and keep putting the kitty in it, especially after feeding, to maximise success. And dont scold when s/he has an accident- but DO praise success...

and just love it & include it in all that you so!

  10. The best food for a kitten would be kitten food. Any kind of kitten food works. We bought ours purina kitten chow. You can give it milk once in a while but not often. No meat or table scraps. You should keep feeding it kitten food until it is about 2 years old. Then for the next year you should mix kitten food with adult cat food. The best litter for cats is, well, I don't know. I use Johny cat, and that works good. Also tidy cat works too. Once you buy your cat one kind of litter though, you have to keep using that brand! I had a cat, and we gave her johny cat, then we tried another cheaper brand, and she wouldn't use it. So use the same brand throughout the cats life.  I keep my litter box in the laundry room, as well as the food and water. Keep all the stuff in the same room it's hole life. Unless you move, then you can't really keep it in the same room . The best way to raise it to like you and your family is to play with it, and be nice to it. Buy some little balls, toy mice, catnip, and other fun toys, and use those to play and interact with it. Also, it is a good Idea to brush your cat daily, just to keep his/her coat shiny and clean! Give it the best years of it's life, and it will love you and your family with all of it's heart!

    I hope this helps!

  11. First go shopping at your pet store and ask the workers there what they recommend, they are there for a reason. Then after you purchase your items GO HAVE FUN!
