If your an Australian the Medicare covers you for essential services. Private Health Insurance will cover you for the rest, and the best deals can be gotten thru your employer and Union with the Health insurers. Shop around because each has different prices and coverage. Medibank Private is the biggest followed by HBF then MBF etc, but each offers better deals thru salary deduction etc.

If your not Australian and are here temporarily then you have to take out your own Insurance and most companies offer travelers Health Insurance. Medicare does not.

Have a look at iselect. They compare insurance companies and services. However you will find that local based insurance companies are cheaper but offer the same products.

I did some research and the cheapest national company wanted $140 a month, Lysaghts Peoplecare only wasn $80 a month.
