Worried about road damage from Hurricane Dean

  1. Hurricane Dean came ashore between Nautla and Tecolutla but rain fall was wide spread. A previous hurricane 3 or 4 years ago washed out bridges in the area and detours were managed quickly.I have heard no reports of damage from Dean and have not yet had answers from the State of Veracruz web site to my question on delays or damage. December is a long way off and we are still early in the hurricane season so there may be more storms. The good news is that  Hwy 180 is the main road for commerce around the Gulf so repairs and temporary surfaces usually happen fairly quickly. From the end of the hurricane season there is a month before you have to worry The alternative is to head inland from the US border to Monterrey and go through Mexico City  Puebla and Cordoba to Veracruz. Good divided highway all the way. 180 round the Gulf is mostly 2 lane bends and hills.

  2. hold on to your britches there...it looks like there may be another one headed the same direction ! A lot can happen between now and December....
