  1. Snoopy was a beagle - so that may get him hooked if he is into Snoopy at all. I know I was crazy about Snoopy when I was little - but I've been a dog (and horse) fanatic since I was a toddler, probably even before. Anyway - here are some links for you to look at and maybe you can start from there on a lesson plan

  2. My first stop would be my local library.  Tell the reference librarian your needs, and s/he can help you find books written at the proper level.  If you already have a library card, you can usually do a search of your library system from home, if they're connected to the internet.  You can also look in your school library, if your school includes 6 - 7 year olds in the student body.  Otherwise look in the library of your little charge's school.

Next you could call a pet shop, and see if they have some books or materials written at the right level, for pet owners.

You could also study information on Beagles at your level, and then relay the information you've learned in 1st-grader language.

Good luck ... that sounds like a fun project!

  3. wikipedia.com has great information that is easily broken down and written in terms everyone can understand. that's a good starting points followed by dogbreedinfo.com

Now sure why a school would want you to tutor on beagles...but to each their own.
