  1. My former wife had it and it certainly didn't slow her down. Also, there are drugs that replace the function of the thyroid. The good news is that those drugs are very cheap. Former wife's prescription came to less than $2 a month (of course that was 15 years ago)

  2. Yes.  It can.  I was diagnosed with Graves (hypER) in 2001, had RAI in 2005, have been battling hypO ever since.  If you're doing well on anti-thyroid drugs and do not intend to have (have more) children, there shouldn't be a need to have RAI.  I wish I would have known this before I agreed to have it done.  The rollercoaster I've been on since RAI is so much more dramatic than what I dealt with when I was just fighting Graves.  Definitely do your research BEFORE you agree to have this done.  Check out stopthethyroidmadness.com for lots of answers.  It's a great resource.

    Best wishes.

  3. I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease in July 2005 and had RAI in August 2005. My endo is wonderful and stays on top of my levels so I don't have any problem with my metabolism or gaining weight. In fact, I just had a baby in April and I'm already back down to mt prepregnancy weight of 120. If you were just diagnosed with Grave's, I know how scary it is, especially once you get online and read all of the RAI horror stories. If you have any questions or need someone to talk to who has been there, feel free to email me at huntbc1@yahoo.com. Good luck!

  4. Grave's Disease is basically an over-active thyroid.  Most endo docs will recommend RAI (radio active Iodine ) Thyroid is one of the main suppliers of metabolism.  So, yes.  Check out this website for some good information about thyroid disease and treatments.

FYI Grave's Disease is not a resp. disease.
