My late pony mare was diagnosed with cushings disease which related to insulin Resistance. It is a fairly manageable syndrome under the right circumstances and if caught and treated accordingly.

  2. They used to call it Cushing's disease...now it is metabolic syndrome and insulin resistence comes under that heading.  It is a disorder of the pituitary gland in the brain, and can affect all of the hormone secreting glands in the body since their secretion is governed by pituitary hormones.  It is treatable and involves dietary management, and in some cases medication.  I have two horses with it...they are doing very well and symptoms have not progressed...you need veterinary consultation to best manage your horse.
