I am installing a home theater system in with my dvd recorder and cable box and I can get the cable box and dvd recorder working but not with both working through the home theater system. Some one else did it for me in the past and I am frustrated now and don't know what to do. Some please help?

  1. I assume you are referring to the AV receiver as the home theatre system. What you need to do is connect the DVD recorder's video in and audio in to the cable box's audio out and video out.

Then connect the audio out and video out from the DVD recorder to the audio in and video in of the AV receiver.

I assume also that the AV receiver is already connected to the speakers. Connect the video out of the AV receiver to the video in of the TV.

Switch everything on and choose the correct inputs/ouputs in the AV receiver and TV and it should work.

    Cheers

  2. How many inputs does your home theater receiver have? If it has 2 then you can connect the audio outputs of the DVD and cable box to the corresponding inputs on the receiver. If it only has one then you can pick up something called piggy-back RCA cables from radio shack. This question needs to be very specific to be answered well.

  3. OK quick lesson: Your HT system has many inputs in the back: an antenna input, an optical input or 2, an hdmi input or 2, a stereo audio input or 2, etc. You need to check which input the cable box & dvd player are hooked into and use the HT system's remote to switch to the input that the HT system is using. i.e. if you have the cable box in the antenna input hit the input button on the remote a few times until it gets to antenna (or whatever the h**l it calls it).
