I am tutoring a 12-year-old girl and am trying to get her to read more. Though she is 12, her reading level is a bit lower. I have already tried Harry Potter but she doesn't ever finish them because she's already seen the movies. Please help!

  1. How about the Nancy Drew series?  My daughter who was then about the age of your student enjoyed so much reading the books (actually, pocket books) that she collected all the books.  And have taken care of them that they are still in our bookshelves.  She is now 33 years old but does not want to part with them.  The language/style of writing is just right for young kids.

  2. Maybe the Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys Mysteries series by Carolyn Keene?  Both of these series books has an entirely different mystery and are good for those who are pre-teen.

  3. My students describe me as a 'bookaholic' and I have thousands of books in my classroom library (and have read them all).  Here are some of the series both my students and I are addicted to....

Maximum Ride Series by James Patterson

    Pendragon series...by David McHale

    Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

Chronicles of Faerie by O.R. Melling

If you send me a list of books that she has read and liked, I can also give you  oodles more ...
