Okay, im going to turn 16 in october, rumour has it that i can legally be kicked out/leave by my own will at that time. True or false?

Also i wanted to know if when i leave home is it legal for me to rent an apartment......and such like that? Is it legal for me to live on my own?

I dont want your opinions of if this is right or not. I just want the answers. A website would really help. If not thanks anyways

  1. it's possible to live on your own but at sixteen you cant legally enter into contracts one of your parents would have to cosign

  2. if they kick you out, you would have to become an empanceted from them to legally rent an apt and other things. Otherwise, not until you are 18 and finished with high school

  3. depends on where you live, each state has own laws.

OVERALL.. a parent has legal responsibility until you are 18, so cannot kick you out.  Almost all apts will NOT rent to anyone under 18, so that is not an option. If your parents report you as a runaway, you can be picked up and brought back home.

  4. That is a false rumor. You cannot leave until you are 18, a legal adult.

You cannot get an apartment, because that is entering into an illegal contract and no landlord would even fathom to enter into one with out dealing with the legal rammifcations.

Unless you are emancipated, you can't do anything.

  5. My understanding is as follows:  Your parents have responsibility for you until you turn 18, so they cannot kick you out without making sure you are provided for in some way.  You can legally choose to move out, I think, but you won't be able to enter contracts on your own like a rental agreement for an apartment unless you become legally emancipated.
