my husband went to court one month ago, and was given a $344 fine to pay by august 12(today). if he did not pay off the fine, than he was to return to court...but does this mean that he is going to go to jail, or will he just be given a heftier fine to pay off? all help is greatly appreciated!

  1. If he has not paid the fine jail is unlikely - a new fine will be reissued though and the possibly of community work is pending. You may want to consult a lawyer or legal aid type thing if you believe this issue may be ongoing. You are also able to apply for payment plans from the courts when you are issued with a fine you are unable to pay by the due date.  The other thing to keep in mind is, when the courts issue a fine and it is not paid they have the legal right to transfer the matter to a debt collection agency where items in your posession are able to be reposessed in order to pay off your debts. This then causes future implications when trying to get a monetry loan from banks, buying a car on finance, etc.
