Question:

I need math help! Please! (Algebra and Geometry question)?

The question is: Solve: 5n+4= 7(n+1) - 2n

I know that this simplifies to: 5n+4= 7n + 7-2n

And then to: 5n+ -3= 5n

Then it goes to: -3=0n

Then I have to solve to get n.

However if I am dividing by zero is it:

A.) 0

B.) -1

C.) No Solution

D.) All Numbers

Please help. This may seem like a simple question but I am confused on it. Please explain as much as you can! Thank you to all that answer! :)

  1. the answer is no solution.

anything divided by zero has no solution.

  2. Idiot, idiot, idiot. *slams head against a table* almost everybody knows that if you divide 5 by 5, you get 1n, or just n.

My middle school forced me to learn this stuff.'

(but of course, I could be wrong. Its been a while since I learned this)

  3. it's C, i think because

    5n+4= 7(n+1) - 2n

    5n+4= 7n + 7 - 2n

    5n+4= 5n + 7

    according to ^^^^

A is wrong because if you plug in 0, it doesn't work

and B and D are obviously wrong so you're left with C as the correct answer. just a tip: when you're doing multiple choice and you're having a hard time, just plug it in. hahha

  4. You did everything just right.

    Because you ended up with:

    -3 = 0

And you know this is not true, your answer would be:

    C) No Solution

  5. 0*n is the same as 0. So, since -3 = 0 is false, there are no solutions. there are no numbers of n that can make 0 = 3, much less 5n+4= 7(n+1) - 2n.

    I hope that helps!

  6. no solution beacuse 0 times any number is 0 no matter what

  7. Let's see.

    5n+4 = 7(n+1) - 2n

    5n+4 = 7n + 7 - 2n

    5n - 7n + 2n = 7 - 4

    0n = 3

Good, your math is correct.  This answer is inconsistent (impossible).  There are no solutions.  It does not matter what value you choose for n, you will never get a valid equation.

  8. Hi Jordan. :)

    Go pee on a stickk.

Sam Solo, you can go shove your stupid face up your butt. Don't you call someone an idiot if you're wrong yourself. So don't put someone else down if you're stupider than anyone else on the freaking Earth.

  9. There is no solution.  Your work was correct, and you found that the equation simplifies to: -3 = 0n (it also simplifies to 0n = 3).  There is no value for n that would make either equation true.

Another way to look at it is part way through the simplification process:  5n + 4 = 5n + 7.  If you subtract 5n from both sides, you get 4 = 7, which is obviously impossible.

  10. Any number times 0 is 0, so 0n = 0

    From your final step of...

    -3 = 0n

    You get -3 = 0

This is a contradiction, so your answer is...

    C) No Solution
