  2. Fish Pie.

    100g butter

    50g flour (approx)

    1 onion finely diced

3 cups milk or fish stock

    250gm Smoked fish

    250gm Firm white fish

    Freshly chopped parsley

1 cup peas or similar vegetable i.e. carrots or corn

1 sheet pre cut & rolled flaky pastry or mashed potatoes.

Egg & milk mix to brush on top

    Salt and pepper to taste

    Pre heat oven to 180C.

Lightly sauté onion in butter, when slightly cooked add flour & mix, slowly add milk until a smooth sauce forms then add chopped parsley & vegetables of your choice.

Lightly toss fish fillets in some olive oil until just turning white.

    Flake the fish.

Add the fish to the sauce mixture and season with salt & pepper.

Cut pastry roughly to the size of the pie dish.

Place fish mixture in a baking dish, lightly brush edges with egg and milk mixture, place pastry on top and trim.

    Press down edges.

Place 4 knife holes on top of pie, brush with egg mixture.**

Bake for approx 25 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.

**Top with warm mashed potato and sprinkle with grated cheese, at this stage.

  3. I found a site that has great ideas with a minimum of ingredients (all of which you can find at your local supermarket).  They are also very inexpensive and easy to prepare.

    http://couponing.about.com/od/groceryzon...

  4. To get your money in hand make things that take the same ingredients but are different.

Buy a pork butt and cook in crockpot,

Eat it that way the next day take some and put bbq sauce on it and the last night make this

    Mexican Roll Ups

This is something I made up its a great way to use left over meat.

    Use one of your choice

Shredded Chicken, shredded beef or shredded pork

Put in skillet with 1 pkg of taco seasoning

Add enough water so that you may simmer it, not to much

    After simmering like 20 min

Place small amount in to soft burrito shell, I like to use the large ones.

Roll them up and secure with toothpicks

In deep fryer or skillet, brown til golden brown

    They will be crunchy

Serve with sour cream, salsa or gucamole

Dont forget to remove toothpicks !!!!

If you get a chicken you could use that recipe, make chicken salad, bbq  chicken sandwhich  and then add it to this

    Olive Garden Alfredo Fettuccine

    1 pint heavy cream

    1 stick (1/2 cup) butter

    2 tablespoons cream cheese

    1/2 - 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder, add in more to suit your taste if you prefer

    Salt and pepper, to taste

8 ounces fettuccine, cooked and drained

In a saucepan combine butter, heavy cream, and cream cheese. Simmer this until all is melted, and mixed well. Add the Parmesan cheese and garlic powder. Simmer this for 15 - 20 minutes over low heat.

Toss pasta lightly with sauce, coating well. Leftovers freeze well.

  5. Spend some time searching foodnetwork.com at least their recipes are rated and reviews posted by users.  You should not be disappointed.

Do you like catfish or tilapia(sp) because they are very inexpensive?  Season the fish with your favorite spices (lemon pepper is great), add a little butter and freshly chopped parsley and microwave for 6 minutes for a 1pound to 1-1/4 pounds of fish.

  6. Buy a whole chicken (usually about $5.00), rinse it clean out the inside salt and pepper the whole thing even inside. Bake it on 350 for about an hour or hour and a half uncovered. Cook some baked potatoes with it and make a salad. Or make some rice and some vegetable you like.

  7. Make uup some terriyaki chicken. Have them in a salad, then left over with rice and veggies:

    Marinade:

You have to splash and taste for this recipe:

    Soy sauce

    rice wine vinegar

    fresh grated ginger

    brown sugar

Marinate some chicken breast strips in the sauce for 30 min minimum or a couple of hrs max.

Take out of the marinade and lay on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with seseme seeds.

Bake at 350 for 15-20 min or until done.

Serve over lettuce with sliced almonds, manderine oranges, chow mein noodles, and then top with an Asian toasted seseme dressing. I mixed mine with a little ranch.

Eat as a salad or roll all this stuff up in a flavored tortilla.

Boil up some pasta of choice (I used bowtie but what ever you have on hand)

Cut the stalk off a big piece of broccoli, peel it and cut into shoe string pieces, cut the top into bite sized pieces. Peel and cut a carrot into shoe strings pieces. Add a little sliced onion. Saute in olive oil and butter until tender. Add left over chicken, pasta and a very quick splash of Asian toasted sesemae dressing. Yummy.

  8. Well, hamburger meat & spaghetti are both simple & cheap.

But for healthier choices use whole-grain pasta & ground turkey meat.

Forget about Hamburger Helper, it's just flour, sugar, & salt.

Cut back on red-meat, buy more chicken & fish, use lots of veggies.

Brown rice & sweet potatoes are better than "the white death".

Mix & Match your balanced selections, Protein, Carbs, & Vegetables.

Change your cooking methods;-} bake instead of fry.

Get a slow-cooker & learn to use it instead.
