I need mechanical advice, could you help me?

Ok, maybe not just mechanic advice, but Jeep advice. I have an 1987 cherokee 4wd/4.0L and the neutral safety switch is obviously out (I come to this conclusion because it will only start in drive). I need to know if anybody has done this before, and could they give me step by step instructions to change this menace? It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me.

It could be on the gear shift itself or on the transmission. Take the cover on the gear shift off and take a look.
