  1. You can do it!  Here are some possibilities that don't require taking out loans:

    * Howard University - "Grants & Scholarships"

    http://www.howard.edu/financialaid/grant...

    * Fastweb

    http://www.fastweb.com

    * GrantsNet

    http://sciencecareers.sciencemag.org/fun...

    * Your local high school, public, or college library - ask a librarian for the college scholarship section, which should have some of these books:

    http://grants.library.wisc.edu/individua...

  2. I plan on attending Howard University in the fall of '09 too. My parents are the same way as your mom. They want me to stay in state because its cheaper. But I have my heart set on Howard. But what I did is I went on these two websites that gave me information about Howard University and scholarship information. The two websites are:

    www.hbcuconnect.com ( very good because its gives a lot of info on all HBCUs )

    www.collegeconfidential.com ( has info on all universities and great scholarship info)

    But hope this helps...feel free to email or whateva if u need anymore help..Hope we both become Bisons in the near future!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. check fastweb.com they have a great scholarship database.

  4. Try fastweb.com for smaller scholarships. You can also try UNCF (United N*gro College Fund), but, Howard University is not one of their member colleges. You can also file for financial aid!

  5. Check out http://www.getreadyforcollege.org/gPg.cf... which has links to a lot of scholarship sites.

  6. You can go to

    http://www.all-about-scholarship.com

    it's about scholarships/grants information.

    Good luck
