  1. Sometimes organizations like a rotary club or lions club in your town donate to sponsor students taking on volunteer programs.  I think that's your best bet.

  2. Be inventive. Find something you like to do and can make money at. In two years you can raise that amount and more. Start by opening a savings account so you earn some interest. Ask for donations to get yourself started.

I have not had a teenager ever come by our house in 15 years to ask if they could mow our lawn. The going rate nowadays is $25 or more.

Some seniors could use lessons in computers. You have one; see if your neighbors need help.

Market your computer skills. Compile CD and DVD lists for people so they know what they have. Perhaps you have a digital camera; if you do, advertise that you will take photos of their houses and put them on disk for insurance purposes. Have a scanner? Scan their pictures into digital files and make it so they can share them with friends and family.

To do this, make a nice flyer you can print up - use a half sheet, printed twice to save paper - and leave them around your neighborhood. You may be able to post notices on a local grocery store but then you have to be careful you don't get calls for jobs too far away.

These are just off the top of my head. Lots of other jobs exist - gardening, running errands, painting, house cleaning. None of these may sound glamorous - you're not posing for a layout in Teen magazine - but they are within reach for any teen.

  3. Not sure if your religious but go to your local church and ask the priest to announce your plans and ask for donations.  You can also do odd jobs like mowing grass, taking out trash, helping your neighborhood.  Have a yard sale ( I once made 700 doing that in 1 day!) Also, you can call your local newspaper and ask them to do a write up for you and your organization.  Open a savings account too and if people want to donate they can send the money directly to your account!  Start saving every pennygood luck!

  4. I just went on a mission trip this summer and I was able to raise the majority of the cost of the trip by writing letters to all of my friends and family asking them for help paying for the trip.  If you do write letters make sure you explain what you are going to be doing in Thailand and express your gratification for their help.  And make sure you send out thank you letters both after you receive the money and after you get back from the trip explaining what you did there and how it wouldn't have happened without their support.

    I hope this helps.

  5. Well you have two years to make your fortune== write a book about a boy who wants to go to Thailand and starts is journey by making a computer game = called=="Go Anywhere" or just pick a name== the plot thickens, Why does the boy need to go back=something from the not to far distant past= Sounds like a money making game= work on it= or if you have no computer skills= think of other avenues, like you said grants, scholarships, bake sales==put your mind to work on this project and it will bring magic to you=== but don't forget the bake sale= The media loves stories like this, give um a story about "The boy who wants to go to Thailand"
