Cut the "you'll get a better job if you study" c**p. You know what I mean by that.

Lately I just don't seem to have it in me to do my homework or write essays or anything. I'll just do stuff that's fun instead of the stuff that matters. I kind of feel bad showing up to class unprepared when everyone else is. I need some sort of motivation on why to do the work, why force myself nd put effort into it.

Also, I don't know how to study, any study tips would be much appreciated.

  1. well, it is true that you'll get a better job if u study, cuz 2 get into college you need a certain amount of credits per class. if you don't have those credits, you don't get into college. if you don't get into college you most likely will end up working at some burger joint for the rest of your life and living in cracktown or something, plus, if you do your work, you won't feel bad when you got to class cuz you'll be prepared, just like everyone else^^ try the sylvan learning website, they might have study tips, otherwise, just type in study tips on your search engine and see what you get. hope this helps! :D

  2. set goals and rewards for yourself like tell yourself alright if i dont get this grade on this paper or this exam than im not allowed to do this or is i get this grade on thsi paper or exam i get to do this or ill buy myself this something like that no one can motivate you more than you can...keep your head up:)

  3. This is how i got motivated this summer and now want to do better then my best.

Have you ever seen Zoey 101. You know the boarding school. I looked up boarding schools like that in California and i was really surprised at how much similar they were to that one. not i'm buying textbooks to work on over the summer so i will be more prepared to go school in the fall.  And now i have a goal to reach.

  4. i mean, its only the rest of your life on your shoulders.

lol. okay now that we have gotten that out of the way.

motivation is something that comes from within. when i was in school i would work my *** off at track practice but in class i would put my head down and copy all my work off someone else. but i eventually started doing better in school and doing my own work. There is no one on here, that will be able to motivate you. that is something you do yourself. many kids start to slack off in college, because they didn have their parents around. but one thing my coach told me was that, whatever you are doing, you should always do your best. and that was the reason i started doing good in school. as much work as i put into running, i put into studying. and i thought i was stupid, turns out im pretty d**n smart!

To study: Every teacher gives you notes right? well look over those notes everyday. There is this thing with memory, when you look at your notes once, it stays in your temporary memory, if you read your notes atleast once every 24 hours, for 3 days the information goes into your permanent memory. this is how people study for test. before knowing this, i used to study by memorization. but actually trying to understand what you are reading is much better. so dont only read over your notes, try to understand what you are reading everytime.

  5. it's not c**p, it's true.  to get a good job now a days you need either a good education or know someone that can give you a good job.

when i studied i took notes on what was important.  when i rewrote my notes, i found that i remembered them better the more i wrote them.

  6. If you get good grades, you get a degree and don't end up living on the streets.

  7. Well, yeah. You will get a better job and make a ton more money. But that's not all.

You said you feel kind of bad not doing your work...you should try to realize that you're probably disappointing yourself, your family, and your teachers by doing so. Feeling a bit of guilt/embarrassment could always give you the motivation to do better in school.

I don't want to make this sound like a negative thing, though. Actually, doing schoolwork can be pretty fun sometimes. You mentioned writing essays--though it may seem boring, it can actually give you a chance to express yourself. You can even put your own spin on assignments to make things more interesting and to impress people! This may sound sort of shallow, but praise from teachers really is rewarding.

Personally, I really do like school, and I'm pretty good at it, too. But last year I went through a couple of months where I was just bored and didn't want to do anything. I slacked off a little, but then realized I wasn't living up to my own expectations and started working hard again. You may be going through a similar phase. You may just need a break. But by asking this, you've already realized that you want to get better at school. When you're rested and realize for yourself how your lack of motivation is keeping you from success, I'm sure you'll start doing better.

Don't study too much at one time. That will put your brain on overload, and you'll end up forgetting things. Say a teacher tells you about a test a week in advance. Study for 5-15 minutes each night for it, and review a little before class. Also, try studying with friends. That always makes it a lot more fun. You can even invent little games to play for studying, just to make things interesting.

I hope this can help you get motivated! Just remember, if you do well in school, people will be proud of you, you'll be proud of yourself, and you'll be a more successful person. And the weekend's always just around the corner. : )
