My car has been making a horrible clunking noise in the differential for about 3 weeks now. It is a 1999 Chevy S10 Blazer. I had no choice but to drive it when it started to make loud popping noises as well as vibrate uncontrollably. I was a few feet from my home, when it suddenly stopped and decided it would no longer keep going. I step on the gas and the tires seem to be locked. It feels like the engine wants to keep going and therefore a big smell of burning fuel comes out. I have no clue what it would be, or how much it will cost to fix. I am on a huge budget and would greatly appreciate any information that will help me make a decision concerning the repairs. I would also appreciate any information in regards to good inexpensive mechanics in the Richmond/Westheimer in Houston, Texas. THANKS GUYS & GALS!

  1. Not to be rude, but there is no inexpensive fix to the rear differential especially since you kept driving knowing it was going out. You will easily be over a grand for a used part and installation. I am not near Houston so I cant refer you to anyone.

  2. How do you know it is the rear end ?? Sounds like a guess to me. NEVER replace any part till you KNOW the problem.

  3. no prob

its kinda hard to explain it

    so

i am just going to tell you  the website

and then you will see for yourself

but i would buy a new car if my car did that

it is pretty old if you think about it

    hopes this helps

  4. this is no big deal,,last year need new rear end in my 98 s10- --the least expensive to repair ,is to replace the whole rear end..call salvage yards in houston ..they  will ask for make model and have the full vin. # in case the want that. it contains info.I got prices from.150$ to 300$ for used rear end,and 100$ to 350$ to install. I ended up paying 150 &100. at junk yard that sold me the rearend and then one of their emplyees in stalled it cheap after work at their yard. took him 2.5 hours.  This is VERY important. Best to have rear end installed by  the same people you bought it from so if there is any prob with they are responsible.and will fix it. the ones who give you way high price looking for a sucker..fyi it is not difficult to replace a rear end your blazer. look in the phone book and start calling ,good luck!
