Question:

I need my driver's license #, but I lost my license (and I'm out of state)?

I used to live in Michigan, and I had a Michigan DL. I've since moved to Illinois, and I lost my MI license. I haven't gotten a new IL license yet (I live in the city so I don't have to drive) -- I just have an IL state ID.

I was just offered a job, but they need to do the security check ASAP. I can't retrieve my driver's license number -- it's not on my bank account, and old jobs don't have it on file (I only had a MI DL for a little while). Because it was my most recent DL, they need to know the number.

I called the MI Secretary of State, and they said it will take several weeks for them to release the number to me -- I need it much sooner. Any ideas?

  1. Either find the license, or wait the several weeks.  Those are the only alternatives you have.

  2. you could try to go to the DMV and get a Illinois drivers license, describe your vehicle and ask them to look for a match to your face and the car, it might be in their database.

  3. Go through your insurance papers or call the ins co. They may give it to you..they have it on file.

Previous employers also should have it in their records.

Think of all the places that you needed to write your DL# and go through your papers or contact the companies. Its out there...somewhere.
