  1. The wires in your house are likely your responsibility, unless you are paying an extra charge for "line backer" service.

But there is no majic about phone lines... its just 2 to 4 wires....probably 2...red and yellow... If one line is working... then the problem is probably at the splitter... go look for a loose connection or broken wire...

of course the problem could also be the second phone.... try swapping phones...if the problem moves, the problem is with the phone....

the other place to look for a broken or disconnected wire...is where the none working phone connects to the wires...

if you don't have "line backer"  coverage, the phone company will still come out and fix the problem...but they will charge you a lot of money.... cupla hundred prolly.

  2. Call your telephone service provider. The number to all should be on your phone bill.

  3. If you have verizon the number is 18002752355. If you do not have the wire maintenance plan, the charge is 91$ the first 30 minutes and 46$ each additional. BEFORE calling to report this at all, call customer service and ask for that plan. Its cheap. Then after it goes into affect...they will fix it free of charge. Be sure to NOT report anything until you get the maintenance because it will be considered preexisting. PS>> its like 5.00 a month for inside maintenance.

  4. I would try switching out the splitter first.  Is it a splitter that comes off of one jack that you can get to easily?

If not, then call your phone company...

  5. I had the same problem. You have to contact your phone company, and they will come out and they will charge you to open the other portals. This can be costly, so be sure you have the money for them to come out. If you just moved in, then they might do it for free. You can talk to a customer service representative and find out.

  6. I would call the phone Co and have them repair it. The last thing you want to do is mess up the line that is working! When you schedule the repair, most Cos will advise you of the possible fees you could be charged.
