Try The Saw Doctors (their album Sing A Powerful Song). It's protopunk, so-called "bog rock." Try the song "Why Do I Always Want You" to start... it's a slow build. Also, Dropkick Murphys are more punk, but they also make that style of bog rock.

Check out the albums "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle" by Pixies. You'll like them.

You'll probably also really like Social Distortion (though with your taste, you probably already know about them).
