  1. your best bet is to find some self powered computer speakers and get the proper adapter to f**t the headphone jack. You can buy an extension cable to reach from the boom box to the speakers and they even have some of the battery powered speakers for outdoors and no power connection or you can get a 12 volt pair that will work with your car power plug. Computer type speakers will be your cheapest way to go

  2. They weren't very loud because the headphone jack isn't designed for them and won't output at high enough levels. Does the boom box have speaker level outputs? If not, no speakers will work unless you get self-powered ones.

  3. Your headphone jack cannot connect to normal speakers - it is not designed for that.  Your headphone jack could work with some powered speakers.  Powered speakers have an amplifier built in, like computer speakers.  But computer speakers are not designed for outdoors.

Your boom box is probably not designed to run more than two speakers using the regular speaker connections either.  You could wire the inside and outside speakers with a speaker switch.  Then it would be one or the other and maybe both if you get the right switch.  Radio Shack has speaker switches.
