Hello everyone. Today I went to pick up my son from school as usual. The teacher always complains about me babying him. He has always liked school, but yesterday and today he cried cause he didn't want to stay, but he also cries because he doesn't want to leave, I think that's weird. Well today I went to pick him up and as I try to grab him, he yelled NO and then I said what's going on and he yelled I DON'T LIKE YOU. I said ok I'm leaving and started walking towards the door, he started crying and pulling my shirt, started jumping, threw himself on the floor, and crying aloud. He was diagnoses with ADD, and his on meds. Could this be the cause? Is this a tantrum, a fit? I'm worry, my son is 4 he has never done this before. Help please I want to go to the hospital, I'm worry, I have never seen him like this before.

  1. It sounds like something happened at school. Ask him if something happened. It could be that his teacher or a another student is being nasty. Hun, he is 4 years old. He is still a very little boy. It is okay to baby him to a degree. He is your child, you know what is best for him and what he needs for you. I do not understand people (the teacher) who try to push kids to act 5 years older than they are. It sounds like he had a very bad day or that his meds could be messed up. Call his pediatrician in the AM and see what he/she says. In the mean time talk to your child and ask why he was so upset today.

  2. ADD meds at 4 years old? No. That's entirely too early to even be diagnosed. He needs to get off those meds pronto. A calm steady even toned environment with limited amounts of red dye and sugar will cure all his overly hyper and attention problems at this age.

he threw a fit. all kids throw a fit from time to time. Don't stress about that. he will get use to school. it's an adjustment.

  3. i agree...ADD seems to be the diagnosis for all hyper kids..but honestly the meds do make it worse when the diagnosis is wrong..he is only 4 keep that in mind and children that age seem to have endless energy...take him to the doctor tell them whats going on and have them take him off the meds see how he does...if he doesnt seem to improve over sometime...take him back to the doctor.

  4. Wow ADD can cause some things but this sounds like it is teacher enduced, not from the meds or the kid, there are lots of programs to help kids with Add without drugs.  If you can do without the Drugs kids do better.

GET a new teacher, complains about you, seems you already know where the problem is not with the Kid it is the teacher have a talk with the principal and get the kid out of that class she is damaging your child!!! Write her up take action if you don't no-one will.

  5. first thing u need to do is take him off drugs ADD is bull kids are soppose to be hyper . your gonna make him worse and ruin his life.. good luck

  6. I don't think you should listen to April, because ADD is not bull, and the drugs will not ruin his life.  Be educated before you ask.  My daughter is on ADD medicine,  and they are not all the same.  It seems to me that maybe you should talk to his doctor about whether the medicine is right for him.  My daughter is on her second medicine because I thought the first one suddenly stopped working. Talk to the school about what is going on there too.  Even with ADD he shouldn't be crying that he doesn't want to go.  Ask your son why.  It is possible that his behavior is a direct result of something that is going on there, maybe he is having trouble with a teacher, or other kids.
