I would like to visit my family in San Diego for Xmas. I live in Seattle. I really don't want to take my 4 month old puppy on a plane in the cargo area. What are my options? Train maybe...i'll drive but it's such a long way. HELP!

  1. Have someone babysit the puppy. And if you dont want

that then you probable should drive it would be the other

    easy way on the puppy.

  2. take her to a neighbor?

  3. i think if your dog is small enough it can sit with you but I'm not completely sure i have seen people take their small dogs on planes  i asked them once if they have to pay a fine and they told me that they had to pay a $75 fee. they were in the actual plane though. so i hope i helped but you could take your dog a kennel or you could drive it isn't all that bad, i've doen it it takes about two &1/2 days or 3 depending on how you drive.

  4. Give him Gravol to knock him out. That's what vets give dogs and cats to travel easier.

  5. I knew a lady who shipped her cat from England to Canada and the cat never really recovered.  Then I shipped my own dog and cat and they were both fine...I think it has alot to do with the pets personality.  Anyway, so young your pup, I"d drive, that's probably easier as you can do pee stops & walkies.

  6. How big is your dog? check with each airlines about traveling with your dog in the cabin but there is usually a limit of how big the dog is. for continental the restrictions are that Pets must be carried in an approved in-cabin kennel. The pet must be able to move comfortably in the kennel (stand up and turn around). The kennel must fit completely under the seat forward of the customer and remain there at all times aboard the aircraft. Maximum hard case kennel dimensions are: 17" L x 12.5" W x 8" H (43 cm L x 32 cm W x 20 cm H) and it costs an extra $125 each way.

As for the amtrak train and greyhound, they don't allow animals except for service type dogs. Although i guess if your dog fits into a duffel type bag and doesn't make noise for the looong train/bus trip, it would work? but i am not recommending that! as it would not be comfy for your pooch.

So your best bet would be to drive although I know it takes like a good almost day's worth of travels unless you have the funds to pay for a flight and the dog isn't too big.
