I need poems/monologues?

i'm a 14-year-old girl that needs a monologue/poem for my Language Arts class.

Any suggestions?

I have to perform it in front of the class.

The time alloted for me is 4-5 mins.

I would prefer inspirational/sad poems or monologues.

  1. Try 'The Lady of Shalott' can't think who wrote it off the top of my head. I think it's Tennyson or somthing.


  2. Here is a poem by W. H. Auden. It's a dialogue between two lovers. The person who speaks the first two lines in each stanza owns a house where she has received her lover. The second two lines (except for the last stanza, said entirely by the first speaker) are spoken by the beloved, who, it turns out, is being sought by uniformed soldiers.

    The drama consists in the second speaker's gradual understanding of this fact and the horrified revelation while she may value love more than anything else, her lover does not.

    'O What Is That Sound'

    O what is that sound which so thrills the ear

        Down in the valley drumming, drumming?

    Only the scarlet soldiers, dear,

       The soldiers coming.

    O what is that light I see flashing so clear

        Over the distance brightly, brightly?

    Only the sun on their weapons, dear,

        As they step lightly.

    O what are they doing with all that gear,

        What are they doing this morning, this morning?

    Only their usual manoeuvres, dear.

        Or perhaps a warning.

  3. well this may be too short but it is from Hamlet and has always stuck with me after all these years

    To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,

    Creeps in this petty pace from day to day

    To the last syllable of recorded time,

    Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
