As a retired person on fixed income I'm always looking for ways to cut corners. The price on this item is very appealing but I'm afraid to risk it without more info. I have unlimited LD on my land line so it's not absolutely necessary to change.

  1. It Does not work!!! my brother had bought it on tv...and it did not do the job...terrible reception...and its really sensitive!

  2. Here's a good short primer on the Magic Jack, with a list of the latest area codes (but, it's really only 1 positive review).

    http://www.magic-jack.info/

There are also links to find Discount Coupon Codes, which can make it even cheaper than the price you would find on TV.  There is no risk to try it for 30 days (although they will put a hold on the total cost to you, so the funds will be there later). This 30 day hold, unexpected by many, is why you might see some call Magic Jack a scam, which it most definitely is not!

You can also see screen shot previews of the install process!

Assuming you have a fairly recent computer (with at least a gigabyte of RAM) and an average (or better) broadband connection, chances are good your Magic Jack will work fine!

If your computer and connection are ok, make sure you don't block Magic Jack with some security program on your pc too.

Magic Jack works on the following ports UDP 5061, TCP 80 and TCP 443. Look at the documentation on your firewall to open the ports to allow outgoing connections on these ports.

If you are in the US, calls to Canada can be expensive.  That is where my Magic Jack saves ME the most money!  Most unlimited plans are for just the 50 States.  Many who travel will say that's where Magic Jack save them the most money.

I would not disconnect your land line until you've tried using a Magic Jack for about a month and then make up your mind...

    Good Luck!

  3. My son and several friends have it and it works great. Some of the trouble with this system stems from a marginal high-speed connection. Remember, all systems are not created equal. There are many free on-line services to test your connection speed to see if you are getting what you are paying for.

  4. I think its a good deal....if that's what you want....you can call anyone for free in the US and Canada for free....land line or cellphone!! I have one for over 1 year now and love it!

you just put the MagicJack into your USB port and use any old analog phone and make calls....!

the MJ software install when you put the MJ n your USB post....with the software and also a softfone if you wanna use it !

I use it since last year, and so far I love it! but you gotta know what you really want out of this gizmo! I use it strictly for travel and as a 2nd line in my house!

Don't expect too much from MagicJack....its not a phone service per se.....!

I had no problems installing it...matter-of-fact ....the install was faster and much more easier then my other VoIP service!

Land Phones its really easy to use....like a VoIP service (Internet phone)

but you computer got to be on at all times for it to work!!

You gotta download their software....but its very easy and you don't need to do nothing else...! I have it since last year...! so far I love it...I take it on vacation to other countries so I can call back for free with an US area code! Make sure you use another user account and not the admin account...also if you have trouble...check your device manager....don't do your iPot stuff at the same time...!

all you get is the Magic Jack...the rest you learn on your on, or at the MJ forum!

You will be up and running within 5 minutes....you can ask here questions when you get it going!! There are alot of little things you have to know........for it to work just right!!

the most important thing with the MJ...it all depends on your ISP provider....! I use other VoIP on my computer, but the MJ was the easiest to install...
