I know that a new vehicle will take the greatest hit on depreciation. But I need other reasons to keep my old vehicle. My truck I have now has 98,000 miles on it and I am trying to come up with reasons to keep the old truck. I almost want to buy a new vehicle but it is impulse buying. GM is talking about employee discounts and I needreasonsI to help to talk me out of spending large amount of money on something I don't need.

  1. I think you should buy it if that's what you want but only if you can pay cash for it.

  2. depends.  if you bought the truck used and never owned a new truck i say  yes.   i got tired of driven other peoples wore out cars  so i just went and bought me a new truck out of the blue.  if you bought that truck new it aint hurt at all  my dad had a 94 chevy that finally spun a rod bareing at 400000 miles and never had any major problems.  replaced water pump and alternator and tranny    he changed the oil every 3000 miles and didnt  add any additive in the oil

  3. This is a disease you have. Maybe an addiction.  You know better but you still want to do it.  Tell us about your old truck.  I bet it is not that old. You only have 98,000 miles on it.  I bet its just getting comfortable.  Any new truck you buy might be interesting for the first few months, but after that it will just be another truck on the road.  Your old truck will gain more and more interest as time goes on.  Any car from the 50's looks pretty cool now, but in the 60's they were just lame cars (mostly)

  4. At 15K miles are year, your truck is about 7 years old, paid for and is still running well.  If the truck you want to buy is $20K difference. you will be paying $400 per month.  Can you justify that?

I doubt you will be paying anywhere that much for repairs and maintenance.  Maybe you should put that money in the bank, let it earn you interest so when you need to get a new one you will have less to pay.

  5. well if you never had no real BIG problems yet then that i think is a good enough reason.  In some cases the engine is better and more capable of handling more mileage than on newer models. i dont know why.

  6. buyers regret is a big force when you are scraping up a new trucks payment the day your new higher insurance payment comes due the same month and if the triple witch month hits you the sane time

and its due for a smog check that renewal youll thank you lucky stars

hanging onto thr paid for vehicle even with its high miles its paid for

and he registration is extremely cheap. stay debt free as long as

you can for its going to be a whole lot more better years after 2009

you will get a chance at new tech upgraded new models coming im waiting till 2010 model year wooo hooo. hats gonna be a hoot of a sale year.watch and til then chill all good things come in tons to thoe who wait.cheers.

  7. I would take into consideration your needs versus wants.

A new vehicle means higher insurance.

The vehicle will take the greatest hit on depreciation.

The newness will eventually wear out.

You will have to pay higher licensing fees.

If you are going to make payments it is going to cost you.

Running an older car is cheaper to own than a new one.

Money can buy you other things like that Cashmere sweater for you cat Fluffy. Or that vacation to Hawaii to do the limbo.

Just some ideas to consider being buying something expensive.

  8. Simple.  Your truck is probably paid for or close to it.  Compare that to going into debt for 5 years to buy a new vehicle.

Even if the old truck needs repairs, fixing a car that is paid off is way cheaper than paying payments on a new car.

  9. new trucks are junk, and I mean all of them are. the newest truck I'd buy is a 2003 Ford 7.3L Power Stroke. The newer ones are way too complex and have way too many problems. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, all of them. Plus, if you want to keep your truck, you should. Just because there's a decent deal on something else is no reason to get something you don't want.
