I was diagnosed with PCOS, last month although my husband and I have been TTC for 2 years. I am going in for an HSG tomorrow and my doctor tells me she wants to start metformin and clomid. she induces my period last week with provera, its almost over now. I only have 2-3 periods a year because of PCOS but she said the fertility drugs will work fine. I need reassurance that I can get pregnant, or maybe if I hear your stories. ONE MORE THING... I am moving to brazil for 6 months in 3 weeks, would my doctor be able to prescribe me any of these drugs in advance? or should I wait until I return?

  1. Clomid will work for PCOS.  I have it and I got pregnant on 25 mg of Clomid in the 1st month.  I got pregnant with multiples.  So yes it will work.  I'm not sure about the prescribing them in advance thing.  You will have to talk to your Dr about that.  Good luck.

  2. You still have a chance of getting pregnant.  Your gyn has you on the medicines that are promising to PCOS patients.

Some doctors will prescribe 1 or 2 months ahead (by entering 1 or 2 for refills) but more than that causes legal and licensing issues.

Also, if you were to wait until you got back, your gyn would be able to monitor your ovaries by sonogram.   Either way, I would stay on the Metformin to stablize your insulin levels.  Think positive, you may get pregnant within 1 or 2 treatments.

  3. i have pcos and was diagnosed several years ago. i went on to loose 60 lbs and it helped so much. what allot of dr. wont tell you is that the more you weigh the harder it is to get pregnant. go on the low carb diet and walk. you will start to feel better. and it helps to get a friend to walk and exercise with you. the metformin will help but it lowers your blood sugar so remember to eat with it. and watch you sugar intake. if you drink sodas cut them out completely. i fallow a diet for diabetics. and get check for diabetes because pcos is a precursor for it.

but there is good news i have found out that i am 10 weeks pregnant so the live style changes will help. and if you are moving i would wait until you got back in the states. email me if you have any questions
