  1. one thing that really helped me was practicing on your knees....it builds strength in ur arms..its all about muscle memory when it comes to setting different positions so just keep practicing and use proper technique

  2. only use the tips of yyour fingers.

    dont tape your hands!!!!

  3. Many setting problems come from being a little out of position when you play the ball.

Balance - Move with short, quick steps rather than longer, slower steps.  This keeps you balanced and more prepared to make adjustments as you prepare to play the ball.  Your upper body will be more stable, which keeps your head from bobbing up and down.

Hands above your head - Obviously, you have to put your hands where the ball is, but you might find yourself getting just "almost" under the ball and reaching.  Work to get all the way under the ball so that your hands are always right above your head when you make contact.  From this position, you can quickly release a front, middle, or back set with the greatest consistency.

Get there early - Many setting errors happen when a setter slow down to arrive at her spot just as the ball arrives.  If the setter is moving or turning as she sets, you'll see many more location problems and contact errors.  Sprint to get there early.

Think about location before the play - I used to have spots on the floor that I would look at before the play to remind myself just how far out and how far off I wanted to set my hitters.  Each hitter is a little different, so I wanted to mentally remind myself what I was going to try to do before the ball was served.

    Hope this helps.

  4. i am also a "inconsistent" setter, as my coach calls me!!!  i just find that just setting to myself for like 5-10 minutes a days really helps!!  using a setter ball (a weighted ball) helps too!! the setter ball makes u push higher and harder so wen u get a normal ball, it makes it easier to make nice, high, far sets!!   and by mistake, i came by this tip....ok, well i was at basketball camp, fooling around, and i was bord so i decided to set the ball wen we werent doin anything.....and since i seemed to set a basketball better, i went home and did it some more.......and later that night wen i had open volleyball gym, i rocked!!  SET A BASKETBALL for a couple minutes before a game or something so wen u hav to set the volleyball, it will feel so much easier!!!!!!

  5. Setting:

    - Get in front of the ball

    - Make a triangular window with your thumbs and index fingers

    - Keep your eyes on the ball

    - Bend your legs

    - Bend your elbows

    - Let the ball hit your triangle and straighten your elbows again making the ball pop up into the air

    It's tricky

  6. although this may sound a little funny it works. My coach said you have to pretend you have a window on your forehead, you should always aim to have that ball come off the window on your forehead .then when the ball comes at you step out with your right foot  and your left foot should glide right along like your doing the superman.and the ball should always hit off your finger tips nicely :)

  7. never double-set. make sure your sets are, clean and high, so the spikers can have time to react (except on quick-sets, of course). always make sure that you are paying attention, so you can get ready and prepare to set as well as you can.

when your bored at home, lay down on your back and set small sets repeatidly. this helps a lot.
