  2. What the answerer said before me is pretty spot on.

I would recommend not getting a cheap set up as these can be dangerous and hard to skate with. It's worth spending a fair amount, but don't choose the cheapest option.

Alot of good skateboarding things are available by mail order - have you tried www.skatewarehouse.com or ww.ccs.com ? These have a wider range to look at and often sell top brands. However, you shuld try your local skate shop for advice as you can't beat local customer service.

  3. Just look up your local skateboard shop in yellow pages or superpages...

Once you're there, tell them you need help finding a beginner board. They'll set you up really well. They can set you up with a complete but if you want to buy the parts seperately, here's what you need:

Deck: The actual Board. There are a lot of great brands out there. Go with anything really, I just don't suggest a world industries board or any generic brands.

Griptape: this is the grip on your deck (usually black). It feels like sandpaper and gives you grip. Any brand is good, like Jessup, Mob, Black Magic...

Trucks: These are the thinsg directly connected to your skateboard. Good brands are Independent, Venture, Thunder, and Krux. Some other reliable brands that are good are Destructo, Silver, and  Grind King. Try to stay with the ones listed...For street skating, you'll want your trucks to be low. It'll be easier to do flip tricks.

Wheels: Any wheels are fine. Spitfire is a name that comes to mind. For street skating, you'll want small and hard wheels. Get wheels that are less than 56 mm and are harder than 97AA.

Bearings: These are the things inside your wheels that allow you to roll. Bones Reds Bearings are really great.

Hardware: These are screws that will let you attach your trucks to your deck. Any brand is fine but shorty's is the most well known.

That's about it. To learn tricks and such, go on youtube. You'll want to learn how to ollie first. Remember that some tricks require a lot of time. I got really frustrated when I couldn't get an ollie...It took me about 5 days to get one...some people take a month. Just keep working on it...it's worth it. When I finally got the ollie down I felt so happy.

    Good luck!
