  1. depends on your level of skiing and the type of skis you are going to buy.  When my husband skis straight edged skis he runs 210 when he skis on the carved/shaped what ever they are called these days he skis 165.  He's 5'4" and 200lbs but an expert skier, bumps and double diamonds all day.

Rent a few different lengths some places will let you trade out during the day if you say something like you feel you are over skiing them.  I wouldn't do it more the once or twice through the day they may get a bit nasty.  Watch for demo days at your local mountain too.  That's what I did.  Then I invested at the end of the year for the following.....

go to the local ski shop and talk to them.  I found them a big help.

  2. go with 155 or so.

  3. The size of the skiis you use depend on 3-4 things.

    1.  Your ability

    2.  What are you doing, all mountain, terrain park, groomed runs, powder

    3. Your size and weight.

    4. How much will you improve in the future.

From these parameters, you choose a ski that will perform for you.  A shaped ski in the 150-160 range, all mountain is quite close to what I would recommend.  If you are slalom racing 155, bumps 150, powder 160-165.

               Hope this helps.  Jim.
