  1. Hats, Mask and puppets, maybe made from paper bags and paper plates, ribbon, macaroni and other stuff. Maybe an ancient Greece themed puppet show done by the kids using their masterpieces. lol

  2. well, for girls you could make flipflops... take a pair of flip flops, and buy a few diffrent colors of fabric, then rip the fabric into strips and tie it into the flipflop, alternating the colors, it makes really cute shoes...i have included a picture along with this, as you can see i used green and yellow to make mine, and they came out really cute =]

  3. GREECE

Projects/Crafts: As the the first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC at the Greek city of Olympia, you definetly should have an Olympic Games event (Athens vs. Sparta), http://www.after-school-care.com/Replies... (See reply post of numbers 9, 17, 18, 19, 52) There are many relays and races...Hold a marathon---

(Pheidippides ran from Athens to Sparta to ask for help...)

Dramatic Play, Drama masks, (The word 'theatre' is Greek)

There is a full page of Greek mythology themed crafts that you can make using TP tubes at http://www.dltk-kids.com/world/greece/in...

Do  a variety of lava experiments...

Play the "Body Alphabet Race" directions at: http://www.after-school-care.com/Replies...

The Ancient Greeks played an important part in the development of the alphabet. The first two letters of the Greek alphabet - alpha and beta - have given us the word 'alphabet'

    Music/Movement

Greek circle dancing, hold a Greek Festival, make bouzoukis, clarinet---Homemade clarinet:

Flatten about 1/2 to 1 inch of an ordinary drinking straw.  Using scissors, cut a point in the end.  Put that end into your mouth and blow. The “reed” will vibrate and make one clear musical note). Play Greek music as the children arive in the mornings and during transitions...You can also have open art--and play the music--have youth paint to how it makes them feel.

    Cooking/Snacks

    Greek Salad, baklava

    Reading

    ESOPs Fables, Any mythology

For a less active event try ---THE QUIET OLYMPICS

DISCUS THROW: Use a paper plate

    SHOT-PUT: Use a balloon

TRACK RACE: Each player lines up at the start line and race by placing the heel of one foot against the toe of the next. The first one to the end of the track and back wins.

HIGH JUMP: Each contestant takes a deep breath and whistles. The contestant who holds the note the longest wins.

HIGH DIVE: Each player stands on a chair (or faces the chair back-rest and then kneels chair seat) with ten clothes pins and drops them into an empty bottle. The player that gets the most wins.

Working with school-age children--you should visit the forum at after-school-care.com. It's a one-stop everything that is school-age care!!!
