I need some idea for activities preschool kids can do that shows who they are. For example, a family tree, a story book about thier weekend etc. If you have any ideas it would be much appreciated! Please get creative!

  1. self portraits are always fun!  if you have butcher block paper (or any other large enough paper), you can trace their entire bodies and let them draw in the detail.

another project we've done is to have them select some family photos and make collage posters to hang around the room.  they really like to see them in the dramatic play area!

one more fun thing, depending on class size, is to have a snack-time party for which the children bring in their favorite (healthy) snack to share with their friends.

    have fun!

  2. for my class our first day will involve this project:

i cut out solid colored papers into shapes of children, nothing fancy just a body and pig tails on girls and none on boys (just the silhouette)

the kids will draw themselves on the cut out (color their eyes clothes and let them let detailed and into it and really represent themselves) then, i will ask them to draw something they love on a separate paper and glue over their heart, draw something they like to have with them all the time on a separate paper and glue in their hands, draw something they like to do  on a separate paper and glue on their feet and draw something they like to eat on a separate paper and glue by their lips and something they would like to learn drawn on a separate piece of paper and glued by their head...

then i will decorate the class with them with the saying

"who are you? this is who i am!" above it =]

you could even separate the drawings into different centers or days...

    good luck and have fun!

  3. A book in which they write a line about themselves on the first page, then each of their family members on the next pages and they can do a drawing of each of them.

Give each child a cardboard cut out of a child then let them stick wool for hair, and bits of cloth on to make clothes to make them look like themselves.

A blank piece of paper then let them glue on paper cutouts of houses trees fences apartment blocks flowers people dogs etc to make a collage of where they live.

Cut potatoes in half - cut out shapes in the cut side then dip them in liquid paint and stamp them on paper to make a family tree showing grandparents, parents, themselves and siblings.

    or

make a big picture of a bare tree and let the child pin leaves with family members on it in the correct order on the branches

A map of the world with a small  photo of themselves on the country they live in and its flag and if relevent the country of their ancestors and that countries flag.

Make A list of 'things I like to do' letting each child tell you what to put on their list then let them illustrate it either with drawn pictures from cut outs from magazines.

  5. That is an awesome question. I think that a story book is a great idea. Kids are very imaginative, let them think of it for you. Ask them!!!

  6. Photo's of themselves as a baby and now to show how they have changed and what they can now do that they couldn't. (walk, talk etc)

    Photo's of their family/friends/pets/home/

Favourite colour/animal/food/toy/etc  Cut and stick from magazines to make a collage.
