I am renting a flat this summer in Paris from a woman who lives in the 14th. She says it is near Rue Daguerre and in a lively area. I need to know if this area is okay for a woman and small child. Please help. Is it too far from center of Paris. HELP!

  1. Bonjour Sandra,

You're going to have a wonderful time in the 14th. Used to work there, yes, lively but if you're in one of the smaller streets it's calm and quiet.

You shouldn't be far from a bakery... and all other shops including a supermarket within easy walking distance, as well as a small park.

There are 2 or 3 very close by major attractions that you might want to take in : Tour Montparnasse, the tallest skyscraper in Paris affords a splendid view. Go on a clear day.

These might be a little morbid with a young child but the Montparnasse cemetery is home to many great names (Alfred Dreyfus, Guy de Maupassant, Samuel Beckett... ) and the catacombs museum... depleted quarries that became a repository for bones. This is in Place Denfert Rochereau where the RER B train line is too... That'll whisk you quickly to many areas in Paris very quickly.

    Bon voyage.

  2. Its  a perfectly safe area.

Its perhaps a little further from the center than might be convenient but the metro will get you anywhere in just a few minutes.

  3. Hiya,

The 14th quater is a very nice area of Paris.

It is not the best but it is popular and quiet at the same time.

It is very easy to go into the other quaters from there and there are a lots of restaurants, cinemas etc......

You are also not too far from the Paris's "China Town" which is located in the 13th quarter (I lived there for about 16 years).

It is a very good place for a woman and a child.

    Cheerio.
