I've been having a hard time following the lessons in my lesson book for learning how to play the keyboard. I'm nineteen and i know i'm starting kind of late in terms of learning to play the instrument cuz some people start when they're kids.

Anyways, I want to come up with my own way to learn the keyboard, so here's my idea...

Instead of learning ALL the basics first, i want to get a book that has some of today's mainstream pop music. Then label the notes in the sheet music and instead of learning the notes/chords and then playing the music, i was thinking of going through the music first and learning the notes and stuff as I go along.

Does this sound like an okay plan?

I could use some advice.

  1. If you can pick up an elective in piano...some high schools offer that.. and ifyou are in college maybe they have that too.

Get aroudn some people that play piano and if you can take a few lessons at least.

Learn to read the music you won't regret it!

    Practice Practice Practice.

  2. labelling the music might not be that great of a plan, esp. if ur planning on playing the piano seriously.  u could get used to reading notes as letters instead of the actual notes, which is a very bad habit.  it's better just to learn the actual notes and keep practicing them until u get used to seeing them as music.  u cant really do any of the complicated stuff w/o the basics first, which is true of just about everything.  if ur lesson book is torturing you, find a good teacher who doesn't make u fall asleep :) sorry if that didn't really help that much >_<

  3. learn the notes and chords first it is a whole lot easier i took a class at skool and i tried to teach myself the way u are first and it was hard do the basics first

  4. That works but its a lot easier to learn chords and notes first.
