Question:

I need some advice on temporarily moving to Sydney, Australia.?

Im 19 and soon to be finishing an art and design course, specialising in Photography, after my course I want to travel and live in Sydney Australia for a short while...around 6 months.

I know one 'native' person living and working there, but I will be moving out there on my own and would appreciate some advice and tips on a few things.

How do I get a working Visa - what jobs require little or no previous experience/ how hard it is to gain employment?

Whats the cheapest living accomodation I can get ?

Do I need a specific amount of money before entering AUS ?

What is the health care like there?

I currently live in the UK now, so it would be quite an adjustment for me, but one I really want - please answer my question as accurately as possible!

I am pretty clueless at the moment but I am doing my research!

Thanks in advance!

  1. LL has got it spot on, must have been reading my standard answer to this type of question!

Don't bother with a six month stay, once you get all the way over here you might as well stay for the full year that the visa allows.

Also, I might add that the "young persons holiday" visa is very popular and many people use it and have a whale of a time while they are over here here too.

There are a myriad of "backpacker" sites, so start looking and have fun once you get here.

Britishballs, is a good site to start with, might sound rude, but then it is a backpacker site:

  2. You need a visa to entre the country, and if you want to work then you need to apply for the 1 year working holiday visa which you can do online.

All the information you need is here so have a read.

  3. There's loads of jobs available, the economy is booming and unemployment is extremely low.

Health care is excellent. Don't worry, you'll fit in easily, the culture is very similar to that of the UK.
