I need some examples of angiosperms (flowering plants) that do not function in the usual manner, or that have an unusual function. I cannot use water lillies as an example..

  1. The Indian Pipe plant is a cool example.  It's a plant (angiosperm) that doesn't photosynthesize!  Instead it fools other plants into giving it sugars.

Another option would be any legume (family Fabaceae).  These plants form a relationship with a bacteria that fixes nitrogen.  Nitrogen is often a limiting nutrient for plant growth, so these plants help to fix N from the air and send it to the soil where other plants can use it.
