I need some dvd help!?

i created a video into an mpg4 format and it is on my computer. I have copied it on to a dvd but when it is put into a dvd player it says it could not be read. I think i need to use a different type of dvd or something, but i need help.

there are two kinds of dvds dvd+r and dvd-r try both formats and if that doesn't work you either have a bad dvd burner or dvd player
