Hi All,

Sorry if this is long and waffly but I wanted some advice. I want to be a teacher. I went to Leicester Uni and got kicked out for failing 2 modules (60 credits) in my final year (due to family problems - no excuse I know) I completed the other 300 credits worth of my degree. All I needed to do was pass another 20 credits to get my degree.

Would it be better for me to attempt to finish this degree via distance learning (only 180 credits transfer over to I would have to complete another 180). Then go on to a PGCE?

Or should I just apply to University to start a Teaching Degree from scratch and do the whole three years?

Or are there any other options available that I am unaware of? I am currently working as a Teaching Assistant at a private school which I love but I know I want to be a Teacher and just can't seem to manage to get there.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  1. Here's a long and waffly bit of advice, I hope it helps!

Speak to the Head or your line manager at work to see if they can help - the school has a certain amount of obligation to aid you in your personal and professional development; they may also have access to routes and funding to help you become a teacher whilst continuing to work.  I did it myself some years ago by completing a 'license teacher scheme' whilst working as a part-time instructor in technology and performing arts - the best part was that the school paid for everything and the work I was doing on a day to day basis was often used as evidence for the teaching degree.

I don't know if that scheme is still in existence but there may be something similar on offer and as you are already working in a school their assistance seems the best place to start.

Wishing you the very best of luck!

  2. keep working as a teacher assistant and get your university degree while you are working.

    hope you all the best
