I need some good effective volleyball drills for a single person to do by themselves? (with a ball of course)?

I need some good volleyball drills that I can do at home by myself. I play high school ball, and I need to get back into the groove of things before our season starts. Also if you know of any 2 player drills they would help too for when I have a friend over. Thanks.

  1. practice setting

    practice serving to a wall

  2. Bump the ball against the wall, set to your self, serveover the garage door (outside and try not to break anything.)an spike over the fence.

  3. 50 touches of everything will keep your coordination up. bump to yourself 50 times, set x50,  and then do one arm touches on each side.

for hitting,  hit with a wall. hit the ball down, and have it bounce off the wall back to you at just above your height, so you can keep doing it repetitively. each arm is equally important.

defense, use a wide wall to side shuffle and do blocking. i would say 7-8 sets each way.

pepper is best for two, you can also do back sets to your partner, and they pass it back in front of you to beackset again. then switch.

you can contact me anytime for more stuff.

    hope it helps!!

  4. Practice setting to the wall.

Practice hitting to the wall.  (Please make sure that you stop and catch the ball and re-toss it to get it to the correct position.  Practicing hitting every ball wherever it is does not help.)

Practice your approach without the ball.  Make sure you do not have to think about your feet while you are trying to think about the ball.

I know those are boring.  But they should help you get ready for the season.

For the 2 person drills, I really like pepper.  If it is controlled.  Hitting the ball hard and out of control teaches you how to chase the ball.  I am not saying to hit the ball softly at your partner.  I am saying that you should hit it as hard as you can AND keep it in control.  That is not much of a drill, but it works on passing, setting and controlled spiking.

  5. Yes... If you are a setter and want to work on your hands there are a few things you can do by yourself. Find a wall and stand about 1 foot away from it. Set the ball against the wall keeping your hands above your head about 100 times. You can increase the number every time you do this drill. Another setting drill is you can stand up and set the ball above your head and continue to set as you slowly lay down on the floor. Stand back up while continuing to set the ball. At first this is difficult but continue to work on it until it becomes easy. If you would like to work on your hitting skills than find a wall outside and spike the ball into the ground so that it bounces off the wall and back above your head. Hit the ball as many times as you can without stopping and keep control. Try to snap your wrist so that there is top spin on the ball and make sure to raise your non hitting hand as high as you can before you swing and pull down as you swing. Also do calf raises on any steps in your house. If you have a friend over the most basic drill you can do is pepper. You play high school ball so you know that means you bump the ball then your partner sets it to you and then you spike it at your partner who bumps it to you and the cycle continues. Next you can stand about 12 feet from your partner and toss a ball up to yourself and practice spiking the ball at your partner who should be able to return it to you and you can hit it again. If not you can chase the ball and toss it up again. This drill is good for your spiking form and your partners defense. To practice setting stand about 8 feet away from a partner. Set the ball to your partner then your partner must set the ball above his head while he spins 180 degrees he should set it again above his head and spin the remaining 180 degrees to complete a full cirlce. Then your partner sets it to you and you do the same thing. Good luck.
