My horse won't eat the hay she has now, it's pretty dusty. Anyone know of good hay anywhere local? Need it soon.

  1. Sounds ike your hay is moldy.  If it has a wierd smell and you shake it with a fine whitish to grey powder appearance it is mold.  Throw it away or give it to someone wiht cattle to feed.   You should be able to go to a local feed store for more hay .  If no hay available, you can feed pellets or hay cubes.  Just be sure to weigh out the cubes, it will look like you aren't feeding much because they are compressed, so go by the weight not eyeballing the amount.  Horses are good judges of what is good vs bad feed, and you are lucky your horse didn't eat the moldy hay .  Could of been a big vet bill and lots of heartache.  Hope this helps!

  2. One thing you can do with the dusty hay is get it wet with water. You can serve it wet or let it dry. Only do each ration at a time so it doesn't get moldy. Which Albany are you at...there a lots.
