I need some help! Galveston Beach?

My family is going on a last minute vacation to the Galveston beach in Texas. We are renting a hotel right across from the Seawall Blvd. Is there anything I should know about this beach? Anything good or bad? Anything I should be sure to bring? Precautions? The answers would be great! Thanks

Galveston beach is really not that great.  It's very dirty and the people there are scary.  The water is not clear at all and I wouldn't recommend swimming.  Sometimes there are a lot of jellyfish so you can bring some vinegar to treat stings.  Recently, there has been concern about the amount of bacteria in the water so watch for the special flags to warn you when the bacteria level is high.  I would recommend Stewart beach for families and East beach for party-goers.  If you surf then you should go by the flagship hotel for the best waves.  If you like water-parks you can go to Schlitterbaun.  Also you should visit Moody Gardens if you have never been.
