I've just taken a babysitting job this summer. I am a first grade teacher and this little girl is 4 so I can help her with reading and so forth. How much should I charge the parents? Both parents are chiropractors. I'll be watching her M, W, and F. Two days are full days and one day is a half day. Please give me some prices...I have not idea what to charge!!!!

  1. ask them what they think is appropriate

  2. I would ask them how much they usually charge.  The rate depends on where you guys live.  If you live in the city, you can charge a lot more.  Also, do they expect you to ferry her around in your car?  Because they should pay for gas and extra for mileage.  Often, parents will just let babysitters use the mom or dad's car to avoid this problem.

In my area (I'm half urban, half rural), I charge 12$ an hour (I have a BS and I am CPR certified).  You could charge that or more.

  3. I would charge no less than $100/week.

  4. I wouldn't charge them more b/c of their job and the fact they're probably rich.  Just charge them by the hour.  I'd say like 7-10 dollars per hour.

  5. I suggest you find out what the local day cares in your area charge per child.  Every area has different prices when it comes to watching children.  I know teens in California who get almost $20 an hour per child for babysitting.

  6. $30 for the full day and $15 for the half.

But if they have asked you to tutor her then add $10 to that rate. She is 4 though so how much can she really learn. That age should be about fun and learning to play with others. Not reading

  7. Babysitters often recieve less pay then people do in regular jobs.

Here... private in home daycare costs average... 3 to 5 an hour. Or $20 to $25 per day.

  8. At least $15 to $20 an hour.  Tutors often charge $35 to $50 an hour.

Maybe you could come up with a weekly cost. Boy, they are lucky to get a sitter like you. Two for the price of one.  Good luck.

  9. I do daycare in my home and I charge $2.50/hour for each child.  Of course we are in a small town and in bigger cities they charge more.  If you are going to be her tutor, charge extra for the hours during the day you do school stuff.
