I need some help deciding about this dilema =/ (Track)?

i ran track for the first time this year as a freshman, my times ARE NOT AMAZING and i know they can get better, however

i run the 100m and 200m, and i ran the 400m once in a relay

my best time for 100m is 12.5

and for the 400 it was about 58-58.4

i want to keep training at the 100m meter because i KNOW i can drop my time, but do you think that i'd be better at the 400 meter? should i just quit doing the 100m?

i always get from my coaches that i have the best start off they've seen, but i don't have a big stride and i suffer halfway through the 100m. i've played soccer for about 9 years and i haven't found anyone faster than me, is that because i just start off running faster than they do but slow down later? im sure if i were to race somebody from soccer out of the blocks im bound to get beat

can someone pleeeaaaassseee tell me whether or not to keep doing the 100m, and some tips to train for it if i should keep doing it?

  1. u should just ask ur coach

  2. you should stick to sprints because you said you get a good start and you need that to sprint well. but can't you just run all of them?

  3. You sound more like a 100m runner but I think you'd be wayyyyy better at distance probably just the 800m though not to much not too short. Right there in the middle. Great for a soccer player.

    Good Luck!

    hope I helped

  4. Maybe you would be better cut out for distance running.  If you played soccer you probably have the endurance.  Try running 800m, 1600m and 3200m and see how you do.  That just might be what you are destined to be great at!?

  5. The times are not bad, and you are still young. If you have improved over the season and done some training then I would say stick with your shorter sprints for another season. You are lacking strength which is showing up in the second half of your 100m. Perhaps try a cross country race to see how you are over a bit of distance or a middle distance race at the end of next season to see how you go. DO some 10 - 20 minute runs in your off season which will be good for your soccer and give you more strength to do more training. Try some hill runs, sand hill running to help yopur strength. No matter what distance you run, speed is always a very important factor
