I was wondering if any other parents out there have found any good informational web sites to explain to an 8 year old girl about getting her period. I know it sounds kind of early to be doing this but I was just informed that there was another 8 year old that got her period at school and didn't know anything about what was happening to her, and I don't want my daughter like that. I need age appropriate sites please???

  1. beinggirl.com or google the subject.

They usually have programs in the kids schools about these kinda's of things, that why have to take. My sister's 9 and in 4th grade and they have to learn about that this year.

  2. Just start explaining it to her.

I remember seeing the products in the house growing up and I asked friends.. that's how I learned. LOL

Then a friend told me exactly what it was .. so when I experienced it I didn't even tell my mom, I just started using the products.. LOL.. it wasn't until she saw them missing did I tell her cause she was asking me questions.. and she made a big deal and started telling family and OMG I was so embarrassed so please don't do that!   haha

Just tell her about what happens to girls.. the whole cycle and why it happens and why it's good.. etc

Then tell her that it's exciting because.... (I still don't know why so you fill in this part)

and then please don't embarrass her.

  3. I think that books by Dr. William Sears and his wife Martha Sears, RN are very good.  He is a peds doc with a lot of good advice.  So look him up on the internet...you won't be disappointed.  I hope this helps. And it is NOT too early to talk with your daughter about this. I started my period at 8 and no one talked to me and I was HORRIFIED!!!!  I thought I was going to die.  Starting a cycle is a natural process and nothing to be ashamed of.  Talk with her open and honestly at her age level.  You are being a good mom by even doing this for your little girl!!!

  4. you don't tell her now.. this is much too early she won't understand... Most girls get their periods between age 11 and 16 is normal.. Really you don't have to tell her anything just be open minded about any questions she has.. if you and your daughter have a trusting mother-daughter relationship she will come to you when she gets her period and ask for advice besides all this will be covered at school at age 12 when they get s*x education.. most likely she won't get her period until then....so you have plenty of time...

    x*x Good luck xx

when i was in 5th grade we had to  watch this video that explained evrything

  6. You could call her pediatrician and either have them talk to her and give her brochures. You should be the one to talk to her face to face so she doesn't see "becoming a woman" something to be embarrassed about. Tell her what you know and make sure you tell her that she can ask you ANY questions. Good Luck! I'll be doing this same talk in abou 6 yrs-WOOHOO!

  7. My pediatrician gave us a wonderful age-appropriate book on this topic.  Most pediatricians have it, so you should ask yours for a copy.  If not, I would try the American Girl book "The Care and Keeping of You."  There are nice little drawings in the book, and the whole subject is addressed in a very appropriate way for a younger girl.

  8. How about reading a book together and talking about what it means to grow up?  If she already knows where babies come from, she's halfway there.

Check your local library.  They always have books on this topic.

But do this together, rather than just showing her a website.

  9. The truth will set you free, I always say.

  10. i don't know any sites but i have already explained it to my 7 year old.  she seems to understand.  just sit down and talk with your daughter.  children are a lot smarter then we think they are.

  11. just tell her to contact her teacher if anything weird happens(explain a little better than that) & tell her teacher to contact u & explain it to her then..

    8 seems a lil young

    good luck!

  12. There is a book called period that you can get at the library and here is a good site for her..http://kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health...

It is usually genetic when a girl starts her period and is real close to when her mom starts.  My sister started at 8, though and had the same experience.  The teacher told the whole   class about it and humiliated her.  Chances are that she will probably start when she is 11 or 12 but it is always good to know ahead of time.  My girls, 7 and 6 were told about it while I was pregnant and it was a good time to teach women's health.  Just be very open with her and maybe you can show her your own products so when she has her own she doesn't feel uncomfortable about them.

  13. There is a website called www.grownupgirl.net and they sell books that are for the girls to read.  I hope that this helps.

  14. http://www.kidshealth.org/

  15. its not too early, perfect timing.  don't know any websites but wanted to let u know that its not too early.

my neice got it at 10years old.

  16. www.4parents.gov

it is a really good website!!!!!!!!

OR you can buy the American Girl book" The care and keeping of you.

it taught me so much when i read it. it does have some graphic pictures but you can buy it at an American Girl store or Wal Mart or Barnes and Noble

    good luck

  17. right this is going to sound wierd but go to www,youtube.com and type in sanitary towels it will come up  with a really old video from the early 1960's but its gd quality stuff it shows you how to place the pad in your underwear and how you should discard them the sooner she learns the better but seeing it in picture might help her understand bit better.

  18. I'd make a spiritual explanation; this avoids the 'oh, icky!" or scared reactions. Make it very short:

"I don't know if you've heard of this but God (or whatever word you use) makes a soft and warm place inside near every girl's tummy to keep a baby safe before it's born. Did you know this? Well, if there is not a baby in there, the warm water comes out every month. There is some blood in it so it looks red. Did you know that? So for a few days, girls wear pads to hold the liquid that comes out. You buy those at the store. Have you seem them? It's a healthy , natural thing that every girl has. It will start happening to you soon or maybe not for a couple of years. Do you understand or have any questions?
