Hi, my 87 year old mother is in huge pain. She has spinal stenosis, and we are in the process of waiting for a surgical procedure. She is allergic to codine and the medical profession doesn't seem to offer any alternatives to this medication, even Morphine has a codine base which she can't take. She passes out if she has it, can someone please offer ANY alternatives to codine or morphine? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  1. maby a muscle relaxer like soma

  2. ask your doctor about Fentanyl patches, or demerol, or stadol.

  3. I am allergic to the Opium drug family as well including Fentanyl.  I have had great success with Blu-Emu cream (kind of like Ben g*y, etc., but so many more beneficial ingred.).  It helps inflammation among other ailments.  Use it liberally according to the package directions.  Walmart sells it the cheapest.  Good luck.

  4. I am also in great pain, they give me Methadone. It works quite well, most of the time. I'm not a Dr., but I don't think it is from the Opiate family.
