  2. You will be seen as something of a curiosity, being half black/chinese/white, be ready to answer lots of questions

  3. I just returned home form a school trip to China a few weeks ago form a world challenge expedition.

I went to Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Yangshoo & also many remote dong villages.

Everywhere I went I felt like a celebrity - people wanted to take my photo every where I went! Even in Beijing! It was crazy!

Everyone I met was so polite & I never felt intimidated or scared.

I am white & the chinese seemed facinated by me -they stared -but you get used to it.

I am sure you will have a fantastic trip, I truelly don't think you have anything to be worried about -I can confidently say no one will be racist towards you, but be prepared to be stared at like I was, they mean no harm!

  4. They are used to foreign tourists in China. I was there a few years ago and there were tourists from all over the world, trust me you will not be noticed.

  5. Mixed race won't matter.  You will stand out anyway.  Westerners tend to be taller and sometimes more massive (fat).  You will do fine, especially if they see that your are trying to speak Mandarin.  Also, you can expect to see some dark skinned people in china, since Nigeria is an important trade partner for them.

  6. they wont be swearing at you.

they just look at you thats all.

  8. I just got back from China at the end of July after a month long trip teaching English around the Shanghai/Hangzhou Cixi area.  I traveled with 4 black people and 2 Asian-Americans, and to be honest, they were the most popular with the native Chinese out of my whole bunch.  My students were much more interested in getting to know my group mates than me lol.  My 2 Asian friends were very popular among the girls, and my boys labored under the impression that that my black friend could play as well as Kobe.  I think you will do fine, they view non-white races as more of a novelty more than anything.  In fact, it may get a little tedious talking to all of your fans!

  9. You'll have no problems at all. I was in Beijing last year with a couple of friends. One of them is mixed race, with a white British dad and mum from Saint Vincent and she had a completely normal time there. However, my other friend is a girl from Germany who's nearly 6 foot tall, and blonde and has the 'big eyes' that the Chinese love - all she got was long stares for the entire time we were there.

  10. I am a Chinese, I like brown skin very much. Please avoid being seen by me otherwise I will fall in love with you.

  11. They will treat you as a guest no matter where you come from or how you look.

  12. Dont worry, the chinese dont expect every visitor to be chinese, just like we dont expect every visitor to england to be english. They wont take any notice of your race so dont worry :) Have a good time!

  13. Chinese in these cities are used to foreigners.  You will be no different from anyone else.  If anything, you may have the odd Chinese person ask to take a picture with you.  I lived in China for 5 years and had this happen to me countless times.

While there is some racism in China, like anywhere, it is usually confined to hiring EFL teachers.  There are some schools that only want white faces (which means their curriculum is probably shite.)
