  1. First, send an e-mail to the White House (seriously).  President Bush will send a birthday congratulatory letter to seniors over a certain age (maybe 75?).....  Since your mom was a teenager during the 40's, why don't you play alot of Big Band music?  In fact, Chattanooga Choo-Choo or Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy could actually be the theme of the party - or just Big Bands.....   If you could find a group, or band, to come entertain - dressed like WWII soldiers, that would be great! ....  That was MY mom's era too, so I'm not sure what they ate alot of then - OH!  They had that fake apple pie, made with Ritz crackers because of food stamps!  Maybe Grape Nehi or Orange Crush to drink?  ...  Well, hopefully that's a start:)  CONGRATULATIONS!

  2. we love to do the numbers thing,

    80- pennies or dollars

    80- flowers

80-  M&Ms or any other goodie she might like,

put in little containers, bags, baskets,

this is great for all ages,

  3. Since this is a huge birthday, the theme needs to be her.  She is the theme. Surround her in her favorite things (colors, flowers, food, collectibles, champagne, etc.).

Put a famous (or infamous) framed photo of her at each table, maybe each table could be a decade of her life. For example, the 60s might have a picture of her with you, the glasses or hair-spray she wore, and a favorite record. Each table could include some written memories from her family and friends (this would require you to send out an email requesting stories soon).

Make her lifetime the star of the party.

  4. How about a hall,VFW.Music would be Frank Sinatra,Dorsey Brothers,Guy Lombardo.Try to get pics and like a time travel from when she was a baby to now.Have fun and here's to a Happy Birthday to your Mom.Many happy and healthy years ahead.God Bless.
