After I have the Private Pilot License for helicopters, I understand I can fly helicopters but not get paid, can I actually find like a "volunteering" job flying helicopters for someone else, so that this way the person gets a job done for free, and I get my hours for free? This way I can get the hours required for the Commercial Pilot License for free. Any other suggestions, thanks.

  1. There is no such opportunity. It doesn't exist.

  2. i sure hope not. pilot jobs are hard enough to come by for those qualified for somebody to work for free. and it's thinking like your's that give employers what they need to keep wages low. pay your dues like we all did.

  3. Let me get this straight.  You want to find a volunteer pilot job so that you can build up enough hours in order to get a license where you can then demand payment for your services?  No offense, but it's attitudes like that that are bringing down the aviation industry.  Suck it up and pay your dues, like everybody else.  Flying is a profession and likewise, pilots should always get paid for their services.  If it's too expensive, then pick a different career or try becoming an Army helicopter pilot.

  4. No, you can't do this.  You can share expenses with you passengers as a private pilot, but they cannot pay for the whole thing, even if you work for free.  Then, when you get your commercial, you still cannot get paid to fly, unless you work for a commercial operator.  They have to comply with some very strict regulations, and will probably not hire a brand new commercial helicopter pilot.  Just about the only way to get hours is to flight instruct, and for that you need a commercial plus your instructor certificate.
